Years of experience and knowledge of people's needs went into the design and construction of Sutherlands, which is a purpose-built Care Home with Nursing at Wymondham in Norfolk.
As a result of many unique design features, Sutherlands is able to offer its residents the very best professional nursing care in a beautiful environment which provides the individual with the opportunity for privacy and independence.
The Home is divided into four suites, each having its own staff, dining, recreational and bathing facilities, serving no more than fourteen residents at one time. This means that individual attention can be more easily provided to ensure the constant well-being of each resident.
Each of the ground floor bedrooms has its own door leading out to attractively landscaped gardens or courtyards, enabling residents more freedom to enjoy these facilities.
The bedrooms have been designed with the specific needs of residents in mind. The rooms and en-suite facilities are spacious. Wide doors, conveniently-sited washing facilities and vanity units provide residents with an easily accessible environment.
Each of the forty-five superbly furnished rooms is equipped with a modern call system, telephone and a remote-controlled TV.
A wholesome and varied menu is provided by our qualified and experienced catering staff. Special dietary needs are catered for and refreshments are available at any time of the day or night.
Residents can choose to take their meals in the dining room or in their rooms.
Only by recognising the needs of our residents can we continually provide the best care. The residents' committee has a real influence in the running of Sutherlands and meets on a regular basis with the Manager and key staff to discuss ways in which our service and facilities might be developed. The committee controls an amenity fund which is funded through various activities. The fund enables trips and outings to be organised at no cost to our residents. Families and friends are always welcome to participate.
If residents' health care requirements increase, or their financial circumstances change, they can rest assured they will not be asked to find alternative accommodation.
Hospitalisation will occur only when it is appropriate to provide treatment for a medical condition. Residents' rooms will be kept available for their return to us.
The needs of each of our residents are carefully assessed on arrival. From this assessment an individual plan of nursing care is developed and implemented.
This plan of care is re-evaluated on a monthly basis at least to ensure that it meets the resident's changing care needs.
The resident, their family, carer and advocate are encouraged to take part in the assessment process and to help develop the resident's care plan.
In planning and delivering care our goal is to enable residents to maintain maximum functioning abilities and encourage them to be as independent as possible.
Residents can select a local GP of their own choice or they may register with our own retained GP and benefit from the continuity of care that regular weekly visits brings. Families also benefit from this service as our GP is available to discuss their relative's progress and welfare.
Additional services such as physiotherapy, chiropody and speech therapy can be arranged. Appointments such as dentists, opticians, manicures, hairdressing and complementary therapies are also arranged for residents.
In overall charge of care is the Matron, who is a fully-trained nurse, experienced in the care of the elderly. Matron is supported by a team of appropriately trained and dedicated nurses, care assistants, catering, domestic and administrative staff who ensure residents receive the very best nursing care and attention.
Sutherlands offers long term, short term and day care to meet the needs of elderly people who:
- due to old age require assistance with personal care, or because of illness need nursing care.
- require a period of convalescence following a hospital admission before they are able to return home.
- suffer from dementia and require nursing care.
Local Authority Social Service departments are responsible for assessing a resident's needs and for funding those who qualify for financial support. For those whose financial circumstances are such that they will have to bear their own costs, we will provide information to enable the individual to take full advantage of all allowances available to them. There are no hidden costs, with only personal items, such as outgoing telephone calls, newspapers and hairdressing, to be paid for separately.
Our Residents' Charter and our high standards and facilities say it all. Sutherlands is a safe, warm home where people are cared for by a team of well-trained, qualified, but above all, dedicated nurses and staff.
We believe we have the very best nursing home in the area, but please judge for yourself by talking to us, either at your own home or here at Sutherlands. You'll be made most welcome.
